Our Curriculum at Orchard Park Community Primary School

Our Intent – What we aim to achieve

At Orchard Park, we want every child to achieve their full potential, love learning, and be confident, kind, and respectful individuals. We believe that children thrive in a nurturing and supportive environment, where they are inspired to aim high and explore the world around them.

Our curriculum has been carefully designed to:

  • Provide a broad and balanced education

  • Help children discover their personal interests and talents

  • Support emotional development and wellbeing through our school values

  • Celebrate our diverse community and make every child feel valued

We place a strong focus on reading, writing, and maths, while also creating exciting learning opportunities across all subjects. High-quality children’s books sit at the heart of each topic, helping children connect their learning in meaningful ways.

We use real-life experiences, school trips, and visitors to inspire curiosity, broaden children’s understanding of the world, and build their cultural awareness. These experiences help prepare children for the next stage of their education — and for life beyond school.

Our Curriculum in Action

Each subject has a clear plan for what children will learn and when. These plans are carefully designed so that pupils build on their knowledge and skills year after year.

Every half term, children begin a new topic with an exciting ‘WOW Day’ — a fun and engaging way to introduce the theme. This sparks interest and gets children excited about what’s to come. At the end of the half term, we hold a special event to celebrate and reflect on everything they’ve learned.

Curriculum Enrichment – Bringing Learning to Life

We believe that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. Trips and visits are a key part of our curriculum. They give children the chance to explore new places, take part in hands-on experiences, and build confidence in different settings.

Our enrichment activities help children:

  • Deepen their understanding of topics

  • Learn in fun and meaningful ways

  • Grow socially and emotionally

One of our favourite yearly highlights is our visit to the Arts Theatre, where the whole school enjoys a traditional pantomime — a magical experience for all!
