Starting Nursery or Reception is a big milestone for young children, and at Orchard Park, we’re here to make that transition warm, welcoming, and inspiring. Our Early Years setting provides a safe, nurturing space where children feel confident to explore, play, and learn together.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, balancing purposeful play with structured teaching. Our curriculum is flexible and child-centred, built around each child’s interests, learning styles, and developmental needs. From their very first day, children are encouraged to be curious, independent, and resilient learners.

We focus first on the prime areas—communication, personal and social skills, and physical development—then build in the specific areas such as literacy, maths, and understanding the world. Children enjoy daily phonics, maths, and group learning sessions in Reception, while our Nursery offers a more fluid routine led by play and exploration.
We use tools like Tapestry to capture ‘wow moments’ and track progress, and regularly assess to tailor learning and put in place the right support, including structured interventions where needed. |

Our Early Years children are happy, confident, and eager to learn. They explore independently, build positive relationships, and take pride in sharing their ideas and discoveries.
We closely monitor each child’s progress through regular observation and assessment, ensuring all learners—including those with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds—receive the support they need. Targeted interventions such as NELI and WELLCOM help boost language and personal development where needed.
Thanks to our inclusive, play-based and language-rich curriculum, children make strong progress from their individual starting points and leave the EYFS as curious, capable learners ready for the next stage of their journey.
